The Rum River Brass (RRB) was formed in 2006, when five members of the North Suburban Concert Band (NSCB) were asked to perform brass quintet music for the band’s annual “Pops” concert. Since that time, the group has held over 60 performances at weddings, church services, concert venues, public parks and corporate events.

Scott McCullough
Trumpet / Cornet / Piccolo Trumpet
Scott has been playing the trumpet and cornet since elementary school. While in the University of Michigan Marching Band, he reached third chair in the 50-member cornet section. He is a member of the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble, and a volunteer for Bugles Across America, an organization dedicated to providing live buglers for military and veteran funerals and memorials. Scott has also played with the Lake Wobegon Brass Band, the Big Stoop Big Band, and has been a featured soloist with the North Suburban Concert Band. Over the years, Scott has studied with Otto Kurt Schmeisser, David Baldwin, Robert Dorer, and James Olcott. He has written many of the quintet’s arrangements.

Ron Chamberlain

Ron comes from a musical family. His mother was a church organist and pianist and his father, Wilburne “Big Stoop” Chamberlain, founded “The Chamberlain Orchestra” in 1946. Ron’s uncle, Winslow, played lead trumpet with that group. Ron’s wife, Sonja, was a middle school vocal music teacher and was named Music Teacher of the year in Minnesota in 1996. Ron began playing with his dad's band at age 13, and today he leads the band – now known as “Big Stoop.” He joined the NSCB in the mid-90s. Ron plays trumpet, flugelhorn and electric and string bass and has written many arrangements for woodwind quintet as well as the Rum River Brass.

Lisa Lang
French Horn
Lisa has been playing the French Horn since age 9 in elementary school in Bloomington, Minnesota. Bloomington had a very active music program, and its strengths have influenced many players into adulthood. Lisa was active in the music program at Bethel College in the Bethel College Band and Chamber Orchestra. Lisa has played with several community bands and orchestras since graduating college including the Bethel College Chamber Orchestra, John Phillip Sousa Memorial Band, MacPhail Center for Music ensembles, Hopkins Westwind Concert Band, NSCB, Linden Hills Chamber Orchestra, RRB, Basement Brass Quintet, and Nokomis (woodwind) Quintet. She also enjoys community theater and church performances, and has played for numerous musicals and theater around the Twin Cities.

Matt Clemen
Trombone
The newest member of the RRB, Matt started playing the trombone in 4th grade and never stopped. He was a member of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and was selected to be in the All-State Band his senior year. While earning a B.A. in Music at St. Cloud State University Matt was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Brass Choir, Trombone Quartet and performed several solo recitals. Over the course of his education, Matt won numerous awards and scholarship for excellence. Matt his remained musically active, playing in the North Suburban Concert Band, the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, and the Basement Brass Quintet.

Gary Rathbun
Tuba
Gary originally played first trumpet in 6th grade band and survived playing the solo for “The Carnival of Venice.” After a stint on the e-flat horn and French horn in junior high and high school, Gary settled on the euphonium and tuba in the concert and marching bands at Cornell University. While in upstate New York and Long Island, Gary played gigs in small groups around the area. Gary is a charter member of the North Suburban Concert Band, playing euphonium in the full band as well as occasional performances with the NSCB German Band and the Elk River German Band.
